Salary: Non-Exempt, $34.07 - $40.96/hour.
The posted salary reflects the full pay range for this position. Offers made to qualified candidates will be made within this range and will be determined by various factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other factors that would be critical to success in this role.
Position Overview: As a Property Accountant, you'll be a key member of our accounting team, which focuses on the preparation and analysis of Bellwether's financial statements. In this role, you will initiate, assist with, and complete the processing of complex financial and budget transactions. You will also be responsible for computing and processing closing entries with the ability to own these processes while producing reliable and timely audit and management reports, along with variance analyses. Additionally, you will coordinate the collections process for accounts receivable to maximize recovery. As a Property Accountant, you should possess a strong understanding of the accounting cycle and the US GAAP.
Work Schedule: Hybrid, 3 days onsite. Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm. The final schedule is to be determined by the supervisor.
Your Impact:
- Assist with the month-end and quarterly reconciliations of the general ledger close, including reconciliation of key accounts, maintenance of roll-forwards, and journal entry review.
- Review the trial balances and financial statements for completeness, accuracy, and conformity to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Review and interpret financial operating results of various departments, buildings, and the Consolidated level.
- Monitor property-level Accounts Receivables and A/R Aging.
- Collaborate with property managers and portfolio managers about delinquencies, tenant ledgers, and associated issues.
- Proactively monitor and respond to significant operating variances.
- Assist the Portfolio Managers with general ledger coding advice, ledger reconciliation, and property-specific financial analysis.
- Review monthly financial activity with Bellwether Portfolio Managers and Asset Management to analyze operating results and variances affecting Bellwether’s properties.
- Support the preparation and delivery of the financial reporting package for Controller and CFO review; ensure reports are accurate, complete, and prepared on schedule.
- Assist with the annual financial statement audits (Tax Credits and Non-profit Audit).
- Assist with the Cost Certification Process.
- Periodically perform ad hoc research and analysis.
- Act as a subject matter expert for financial systems & evaluate the financial systems for process improvements.
- Assists with the annual budgeting process.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, and/or related field preferred.
- 2-3 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with financial reporting software.
- Experience with interpretation and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to collaborate and work with all departments in the organization; to keep lines of communication open to assist with finance-specific needs and requests for information and guidance.
- Proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite, including the ability to develop advanced spreadsheets, manage databases, and produce meaningful charts and graphs within Excel.
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects.
- Excellent independent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to relate to and collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and government agencies.
- Experience with Yardi Voyager ERP system
- Development accounting experience and experience with a real estate organization that constructs and manages properties.
- LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) and affordable housing experience
